1. Camco 41541

  • Capacity: 5.3 gallons
  • Color: Grey
  • Weight: 10.8 lbs
  • Dimensions: 14 x 16 x 15.5 inches

OUR RATING: 9.7 / 10

The first on our list of recommendations is none other than the Camco 41541, a toilet that was specifically designed for camping, RVing and other outdoor recreational activities. It doesn’t feature the best design out there and it also isn’t the most affordable portable toilet we have reviewed. But we believe that it offers a great value for the money and it has deserved a place on the top of our list.

The 41541 has a detachable holding tank located at the bottom of the unit. It comes in 2 different capacities to choose from – 5.3 and 2.6 gallons. The tank for fresh water has the capacity to hold up to 2.5 gallons of water and is located right above the waste holding tank. The toilet seat is 13 inches wide and the plastic lid is attached on the top of it. There are handles on both the top and the bottom side of the 41541 which make it easy to carry around.

When empty, this toilet weighs 11 lbs which is on the lower side of portable toilets we have managed to review. But don’t let the weight fool you because despite its lightweight design, the polyethylene construction makes it strong enough to support an adult weighting up to 330 lbs.

How it works

Before you use the Camco 41541, you need to remove the cap that’s located on the top of the toilet and fill the water tank with fresh water. The opening is quite large which makes it easy to fill the water in without splashing.

After the job is done, you need to pump the water into the bowl by using the hand-pumped bellows-type pump located at the other side of the the back of the unit. When the bowl gets filled with water, you need to pull out the sliding gate valve to release the water and the waste into the waste tank.

  • Dimensions: –

OUR RATING: 9.7 / 10

If you are looking for something affordable, lightweight and basic in every way possible, the Reliance Products Luggable Loo is something worth taking into consideration. It would be a lie if we said that it’s one of the most advanced and high-tech portable toilets in the world, but it’s definitely one of the cheapest ones and does what it’s supposed to.

How does it work?

The Luggable Loo is so basic, that it maybe isn’t even a toilet, but a a bucket with features of a portable toilet. It includes a lightweight plastic bucket, a plastic lid and something that imitates a toilet seat. It’s compatible with standard double doodle bags and it weights only 3 lbs.

With that said, the Luggable Loo was designed for outdoor adventures such as camping, fishing, and hunting. Despite the fact that it’s the most basic portable toilet we have ever seen, it gets the job done and it’s probably the most lightweight camping toilet that offers this level of comfort.

The Porta Potti Curve 550E is an award-winning portable toilet that looks elegant and modern. It’s probably the most comfortable toilet on our list considering the fact that it comes with the largest size os the seat which measures 15.2” x 17.7”.

The Curve 550E comes in sleek and modern design. The seat measures 15.2 x 17.7 inches which makes it comfortable to sit on. The height from the ground to the top of the toilet seat is about 18 inches which is about the same as standard toilets. The unit weighs 10 lbs which makes it very lightweight compared to most other portable toilets with similar features on the market.

The fresh water tank has 4 gallons of capacity while the waste tank can hold up to 5.5 gallons of waste water. The flush system is operated via button located at the back of the unit and is powered by batteries.

Another great thing about the 550E is the integrated toilet paper holder which is located at the side of the unit.

Why we didn’t rank it on the top?

The only reason why we didn’t place it on the top of our list is the hefty price tag which might turn many consumers away from buying it. However if the above average price isn’t an issue, we believe that this is the portable toilet worth taking into consideration.

  • Lightweight – 10 lbs
  • Modern and sleek design
  • Advanced battery-powered flush
  • Above average price

Buyer’s guide

There are times when all family goes camping or fishing and the nearest toilet is several miles away. Going to the forest behind the tree doesn’t sound like the best idea for some people and that’s where portable toilets come into play. There are several types and designs of portable toilets available on the market right now and it’s important to find the right one that will suit your needs and budget.

Here are a couple of factors you should take into consideration if you plan on buying a new toilet for camping, hunting, or any other outdoor activity.

They are lightweight, so it’s easy to carry them around. They are also small and affordable, and the most advanced ones offer high levels of comfort and stability.

Where to dispose the waste?

Every portable toilet needs to be emptied at some point. The main question is “where to?” RV sites usually have facilities to dump the waste, but if you plan on using a portable toilet in the wilds, emptying the waste tank can be a little bit more problematic.
